Heads turned around Denver Saturday night as people began to arrive, greeted by the music of local Boulder band Meniskus, at the inaugural Dinner in White, raising more than $24,000 for Anschutz Medical Campus Cancer Fund to benefit the University of Colorado Cancer Center. More than 150 guests – dressed all in white and with picnic dinners packed – converged upon the Chase Bank building patio at 18th and Lawrence after eagerly awaiting the disclosure of the surprise venue one hour prior. Upon arrival, they found the patio lit and decorated in white and enjoyed an evening under the stars and city lights. As Meniskus Violinist / Lead Singer ‘EO’ wandered through tables playing for the audience, guests had their caricatures drawn by local artist Brooke Howell, visited vendors in the Parisian Marketplace and bid on silent auction items.
Committed to establishing it as the next “must-attend” event on the Denver social scene the steering committee, led by Shana Mader and Krista Gilbertson (pictured), organized a group of young professionals in the year-long planning of this unique event.
At dusk, Shana Mader shared her story as a young cancer survivor, reminding the guests of the importance of early detection and healthy living in the battle against this deadly disease. In an intimate gesture of honor and remembrance to those who have survived and those who have been lost to cancer, Shana invited the guests to release white balloons into the evening sky (pictured).
Among the many guests were Gary and Kathy Kortz, Mark and Melissa Osborn, Todd and Lina Olinger, Anamaria Osborne, and Dr. Laurie Gaspar and her husband David.
