'Great time had by all!'
DENVER – More than 400 CU faculty, staff and students — from across the CU System — along with family and friends gathered July 13 for CU Day at Elitch Gardens.
Participants could enjoy the amusement and water parks along with a barbecue lunch with ice cream for dessert in the Maroon Bells Pavilion. The organizers made sure there were lots of great eats and set the scene by hanging banners, gold/black balloons and dressing up tables with black tablecloths and snack baskets. Facepainting was even available.
There were prize drawings every 15 minutes featuring items such as a giant stuffed giraffe, a zebra, pens, cups and other fun items. Prizes were donated by vendors including Elitch Gardens, Public Service Credit Union, Anschutz Medical Campus Bookstore, Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and the CU Cancer Center.
CU Denver’s mascot Milo was there, too, shaking hands, handing out treats, posing for pictures and rockin’ out to the music.
Event co-chair Everlyn Sandoval, who also announced prize winners, credits the day’s success to the whole planning team for all the work they did putting together the event. Sandoval declared, “It was an awesome day! A great time was had by all.”
Joining Sandoval as co-chair was Richard Benson, Human Resources. The other committee members who made it all happen were Van Browning, JaNet Hurt, Gequinn Mattox and Vicky Saulsberry. “Not only did they help with the planning,” said Sandoval, “they worked tirelessly throughout the event.”
Plans for next year’s CU Day at Elitch’s already are under way, said Sandoval.
